You are very welcome to speak with your GP or nurses to consider possible options and make a decision. We prescribe tablets, patches and injections. We also offer advice and procedures for Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) - mainly introduction of implants and there is limited availability to fit coils.

Vasecotmy

Mid Hampshire Healthcare service is providing vasectomy service for patients living in Hampshire and Isle of Wight area. Vasectomy is a quick, safe, and effective method of male sterilisation. Sterilisation is a permanent method of contraception, suitable for people who are sure they never want children or do not want more children. It involves a small surgical procedure. A small portion of the tubes (vasa), which carry sperm from the testicles to the penis, are removed and the ends of the tubes are sealed which in turn means the semen contains no sperm and cannot therefore fertilise the egg.

Coil Removal

We offer appointments to help remove coils. Our nurses are fully trained to help remove coil and offer advice regarding future care/please. If you have already organised an appointment to remove coilt then please make sure you read the following information before coming to your appointment.

  • Having your coil removed is not usually painful, but some women can find it uncomfortable or painful for normally, a short period of time. Please take some pain relief about 30 minutes before your appointment(paracetamol and / or Ibuprofen If you have no contraindication for these).
  • Bring a sanitary towel as it is not uncommon to bleed for a day or two after the procedure.
  • Abstain from intercourse for 7 full days prior to the procedure and be aware that contraceptive benefit is lost immediately after removal. Should contraception be needed, please arrange this to start before the coil is removed.
  • Should you need to cancel your appointment, please telephone the surgery in ample time that we can use your appointment for another patient.
  • If you are due your smear test, this can be done in the same appointment. Please let reception know when booking your appointment.

We have provided below links to very useful information, particularly first link to youtube video that offers useful practical information related to your appointment.
